ISoP Board Member
Gianluca Trifirò is MD, with post-graduate degree in Clinical Pharmacology (University of Messina, Italy), Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology (NIHES, NL) and PhD in Clinical Pharmacology (University of Messina) and Pharmacoepidemiology (Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, NL). He currently works as Associate Professor of Pharmacology (with qualification for Full professor) at University of Messina where the Sicilian Regional Center of Pharmacovigilance is located and with honorary position at the Dpt. of Medical informatics of the Erasmus MC of Rotterdam.
He works also as clinical pharmacologist of Phase I Clinical Trial Unit of Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital of Rome (Italy). He is scientific coordinator of an Academic Master programme on “Use of Real world data for evaluations in Pharmacovigilance, Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics” at University of Messina. He is the chair of pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance & RWE working group and member of the Clinical Pharmacology advisory board of the Italian Society of Pharmacology. He is member of the Steering group of the European Network of Centres for Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP).
He has been involved in recent years in coordination of national/international observational studies for post-marketing assessment of benefit-risk profile of drugs in clinical practice using multiple healthcare databases (MPI-AGE, EU-ADR, ARITMO, SAFEGUARD, EMIF, INSPIRE), funded by European Commission as well as Italian Health and Research Ministries and Italian Drug Agency.
He is member of Editorial Boards of several journals addressing pharmacovigilance such as Drug Safety, Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, Biodrugs and Clinical Drug Investigation.
He acted as referee for European Commission in the context of seventh Framework Programme, Health-Drug Safety area, European Research Council – Advanced Grant and Horizon 2020.
