Mira Harrison-Woolrych is an Honorary Research Associate Professor at the Dunedin School of Medicine at the University of Otago in New Zealand. With a background in clinical obstetrics and gynaecology, she has over twenty years of experience in pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and medicines regulation, in both the UK and NZ.
Between 2003 and 2013, Mira was the Director of the NZ Intensive Medicines Monitoring Programme (IMMP) & has an extensive list of pharmacoepidemiology research publications on many different medicines. She has also worked as a Senior Medical Assessor at the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) specialising in women’s medicines including oral contraceptives, contraceptive devices and medicines in pregnancy.
In 2015, Mira edited the textbook Medicines for Women, the first book to specifically focus on medicines and devices used in women’s health. Mira established and leads the ISoP Women’s Medicines Special Interest Group (SIG) and was also the founding co-ordinator of the ISoP Western Pacific Chapter. More recently, she co-edited the second edition of Introduction to Pharmacovigilance (with Patrick Waller) which was published in 2017.
Mira has served on several national and international pharmacovigilance committees, including the NZ Medicines Assessment Advisory Committee (new medicines) and a NZ Health and Disability Ethics Committee, in addition to the ISoP Executive Committee. She has also been on the Scientific Committee for several ISoP annual meetings and now helps organise ISoP training courses around the world.
