Sten Olsson
Past President, ISoP
After his MSc in pharmacy at Uppsala University, Sweden, he became one of the original staff members of the Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) in 1978. At UMC he held many posts related to capacity building and competence development for national pharmacovigilance systems globally within the expanding WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring. He worked in close collaboration with departments for medicine and vaccine safety at WHO Headquarters and made many consultancy visits in countries.
He managed the UMC international pharmacovigilance training courses 1993-2009 and contributed to pharmacovigilance training courses in over 65 countries in 5 continents. Editor of the Uppsala Reports newsletter 1996-2015, Scientific Coordinator of the EU funded Monitoring Medicines project in a 11-member consortium 2009-2013. Member of the WHO Global Vaccine Safety Initiative (GVSI) Strategic Priority Group 2012 – 2015, Guest professor at China FDA Institute of Executive Development 2012 – 2015; Honorary faculty member, JSS Collage of Pharmacy, Mysore, India 2014-. President of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance, ISoP, 2016 – 2019; appointed member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Medicine Safety in 2019
