Description
The World Patient Safety Day builds on a successful series of Global Ministerial Summits on Patient Safety pioneered in 2016 at London as well as relentless advocacy by leaders from all sectors — politicians, patient champions, patient safety experts and global public health leaders. The establishment of an annual World Patient Safety Day will give an opportunity to providers, seekers and managers of health care services to join a platform and express solidarity and compassion to make health care safer. The origin of the day is firmly grounded in the fundamental principle of medicine – First, to do no harm.

We are delighted to announce the World Patient Safety Day 2023 entitled “Engaging Patients for Patient Safety”. As last year, ISoP will organise several free webinars and activities, which will take place on September 7th and 8th, 2023.
We are thrilled to invite you to participate in World Patient Safety Day 2023, a significant event dedicated to promoting patient safety on a global scale. Taking place on September 17th, this year’s theme, as named by the World Health Organization (WHO), is “Engaging Patients for Patient Safety.” This theme underscores the critical role of patients, families, and caregivers play in ensuring safe and effective healthcare.
The WHO’s call to action, “Engaging Patients for Patient Safety,” urges all stakeholders to take necessary measures to involve patients in policy formulation, incorporate their representation in governance structures, engage them in co-designing safety strategies, and promote their active participation in their care. By providing platforms and opportunities for diverse patients, families, and communities to voice their concerns, expectations, and preferences, we can advance safety, patient-centeredness, trustworthiness, and equity in healthcare.
As members of the ISoP, we have a unique opportunity to contribute to this global movement. We invite you to actively participate in the World Patient Safety Day event organized by our Medication Errors SIG on September 7th and 8th. You can join as moderators, speakers, and contributors, sharing your expertise and insights to enhance patient safety practices within our chapters and beyond.
